"Gorst's Farm"
Barb Kenyon
My mother told me I used to draw pictures on the wall behind
my bed when I was about four years old. Luckily for the
apartment and her sanity, she bought me lots of crayons and
    paper!

Thirty-five years as a graphic artist doing key line, paste-up
and design at various copy prep houses, studios and public
institutions paid the bills while I continued to hone my skills
    at painting.

My first paintings were done in oil our apartment. I switched
to watercolor when the children were young as it is quicker
and virtually odor free. Since we like to travel, it also lends
itself to painting on location with a minimum of supplies and
    equipment.

I have studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and
Harper College in Palatine, and continue my self-education
with hands-on workshops conducted by many well-known
    watercolor artists.

My husband, Bob patiently came along and helped set up my
tent for Art Fairs in our community. My paintings still
circulate in the Schaumburg Township Library. They have
been shown in several northern Illinois libraries and art fairs.
Currently, I show my work at various locations in Door
County, mostly with the Door County Art League.

It takes a great deal of time and practice to master this
medium and I find something interesting and new from every
practitioner of the medium. Retirement in Door County has
given me an opportunity to pursue not only watercolor but
also other mediums as well in an artistic and supportive
    community.
